psalm 31

from Albert’s Blog, SIX MINUTES OF BANTER

in staff meeting, every wednesday, we set aside some time for devotionals. currently we are all rotating through each chapter of the book of psalms.

this morning, i have psalm 31.

ill let you read it on your own, but i was feeling something simply today. the context is this chapter of psalms is david crying out, probably when saul is chasing him, trying to track him down and kill him, and david, rightfully, wants some protection here. when i was reading, i noticed this psalm is broken up into four parts.

part one - david is stressed. it believed at this time, saul is after him…again.

part two - God answers david cry for help.

part three - david’s in it yet again, and calls for God’s help…again.

part four - God is faithful and answers…again.

THIS TELLS ME A FEW THINGS

God answers prayer. he is a God who is active and working in the world and in our lives this very moment and wants us to have the best life ever! (john 10:10)

God wants us to ask. let’s face it, God doesn’t need us. he doesn’t need us to ask for help. he could intervene on his own. but there’s something that happens inside of us when we have to voice what’s going on and drop our pride and ask for help! this falling of the pride action somehow causes us to hear God a little more in our lives. when we cry out, its one step closer to hearing God’s voice, and one step closer to realizing God always hears us, as rob bell says “God always hears the cry of the obressed.”

we have to do it over and over. not like a ritual. not like throwing salt over our shoulders. not like chanting something five times a day or we’ll burn… but for our sake, we find ourselves in big pickles everyday, and we need to cry out to God over and over, because if you’ve lived life for any amount of time, you realize, you can go it alone!

well, this is what i’ll be shareing in staff meeting today, i’m sure by the time i’m done with it, much smarter people will have much better things to add on to all this.
